Getting Started with Confluence as a Wiki
Want to use Confluence as a wiki? We’ll guide you through the process step by
Did you know that 44% of employees feel left out of important company information? Effective internal communication is crucial for keeping teams aligned, engaged, and informed. A well-designed Company Hub in Confluence can centralize updates, resources, and tools to close the communication gap, enabling employees to stay up to date with the latest company news, events, and resources—all in one place.
A modern, dynamic, and personalized company hub can make a huge difference, ensuring employees have easy access to the information and resources needed to stay engaged and aligned.
Find out how!
Atlassian’s new Company Hub is a feature available only for Premium and Enterprise customers, aiming to give teams a central space for internal communication.
The Company Hub of Confluence provides a new entry in the top navigation bar, placed beside the Confluence logo, and links to a specific Confluence page. But what you do with this page is entirely up to you – it’s after all, “just” a landing page. And by default, the Company Hub comes pre-configured with two macros that make it easy to share information.
Here’s a look at what’s included by default:
As you can see, we have a carousel and three different card macros, used differently.
Carousel Macro for Announcements
At the top of the Company Hub, you’ll find a Carousel macro that lets you highlight rotating content, ideal for announcements, company updates, or critical news.
Cards Macro for Employee Shout-Outs
Cards Macro for Resources
Cards Macro for Quick Links
Filled with some information, a Company Hub with Confluence can look like this:
This feature is valuable but limited in reach. Since the Confluence Company Hub is only available on Premium and Enterprise plans, many teams on Standard are left without a central solution for company-wide communication. Additionally, it remains largely a static tool rather than an interactive experience.
For teams on Confluence Standard—or those seeking more customization—a company hub is still within reach! With Aura Content Formatting Macros and Karma from appanvil, you can design an interactive, visually engaging, and fully functional company hub that bridges communication gaps, keeping teams informed and connected.
Aura offers an array of advanced formatting macros that can transform any Confluence page into a visually engaging and interactive space. Here’s how to use some key Aura macros to create your own Company Hub with essential features like announcements, shout-outs, resources, and quick links.
Confluence’s built-in feature options allow you to manually add or link to current content, but with Aura’s Dynamic Content macro, you can automate real-time updates from across Confluence. Pull in recent news, blog posts, or team highlights automatically, ensuring your hub always displays the latest information without manual effort. This feature is perfect for keeping announcements and shout-outs fresh and visible.
Use Aura Cards to highlight key sections like resources, quick links, or department shout-outs, adding structure and organization to your Company Hub.
Unlike the Confluence Cards macro, which is more static and limited to basic images, Aura Cards come with a vibrant color palette, giving you the flexibility to pick colors that match your brand—or go for a creative rainbow look! With Aura, you can also add interactive hover or flip effects, enhancing the user experience and making important content pop.
Confluence’s basic page hierarchy can lead to long navigation paths or multiple clicks. With Aura’s Child Tabs, you can display child pages in a tabbed view directly on the main hub page, so employees can easily access related information without leaving the main page. This is perfect for organizing topics like department resources, project updates, or company policies—all on a single page, keeping navigation seamless and intuitive.
While Confluence has a built-in expand feature, Aura’s Expand macro offers enhanced customization, allowing you to match your brand’s style with custom colors, icons, and animations. Use this feature to collapse FAQs, announcements, or onboarding guides, helping users quickly locate relevant information without overwhelming the page. With Aura’s Expand, you can guide employees through content more smoothly.
The standard Confluence status labels are helpful, but Aura’s Status macro allows for richer customization, making it ideal for tagging items with statuses like “In Progress,” “Upcoming,” or “Completed.” These tags help users quickly understand the progress of projects, shout-outs, or department goals at a glance. Aura’s Status macro enables instant updates in view mode, adding convenience to Confluence’s existing project tracking capabilities.
As you can see, you can set up a company hub that is also interactive without Confluence Premium. This allows you to ensure transparency within the company and increase employee engagement and happiness.
